Beauxbatons Academy of Magic

The Beauxbâtons Academy of Magic is a French school of witchcraft and wizardry. The current headmaster of Beauxbâtons is the half-giant witch Madame Olympe Maxime. It is one of the schools invited to the Three Wizards Tournament in 1994 – 1995.

Location and access

Beauxbâtons is located in France in the Pyrenees, but its exact location is unknown. Like so many other wizardry schools, the academy does not want to publicly reveal its exact location so that no one can steal its secrets.

It is nevertheless known that the school is located in the southeast of France: the pupils’ dresses are very fine and more adapted to a warmer climate, the typical Marseilles flat bouillabaisse is openly talked about by its students, and Rubeus Hagrid, Maxime’s lover, spent vacations in the South of France. Many sorcerers think it is located exactly in the Pyrenees.

The location of the academy is probably subject to special protective charms: unplottable, Muggle-repelling spells…

Description

If the academy remains very secret, it is however clearly indicated that it’s located in a palace. Its visitors talk about a superb castle surrounded by French gardens cut by magic in the mountainous relief. In the park, there is a magnificent fountain with healing powers named Flamel, in honor of Nicolas and Pernelle Flamel, both former students of Beauxbâtons, who partly financed the construction of the academy with their alchemical gold.

History

The academy has existed for more than seven hundred years and has been part of the Three Wizards Tournament since its creation. It has a good relationship with Hogwarts despite their rivalry in competitions such as the Three Wizards Tournament, which Beaux Bâtons has won 62 times, compared to Hogwarts 63 times.

Beauxbâtons competed in the 1994 Tournament and sent a delegation of candidates to Hogwarts. The school champion chosen by the Goblet of Fire was Fleur Delacour.

Spirit of the Academy

Coat of arms

The coat of arms of the academy, present on the coach, represents two crossed gold rods, each throwing three stars.

Organization

Students
The Beauxbatons Academy welcomes mostly young French wizards, but also Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Luxembourgish and Belgians (Beauxbatons’ capacities are higher than those of Hogwarts).

Uniform
The school uniform is a fine blue silk dress and a light blue cape.

Qualities

Respect
Students stand up when their principal enters a room, move in a line with her and remain stoic in the face of mockery. They seem very respectful of customs.

Delicacy
The place seems to be full of delicacy. Fleur Delacour evokes during the Yule ball the customs respected in the Beauxbatons palace at Christmas. She evokes ice sculptures that do not melt, similar to diamond statues, choirs of nymphs that serenade, and refined cuisine.

Reviews
According to Fleur, students take their first exams, similar to O.W.L.s in sixth grade, not fifth grade as at Hogwarts.

Known students

Fleur Delacour, the school’s champion in the 1994 Triwizard tournament

Gabrielle Delacour, Fleur’s sister.

Nicolas Flamel and his wife Pernelle. They both met at school and started financing it later using their alchemically created gold.

Vincent Duc de Trèfle-Picques, one of the most famous former students of the academy, who fled the Reign of Terror of 1793-1794 by making people believe that he had been decapitated using a Concealment Charm.

Luc Millefeuille, another famous former student, a pastry chef who was known to have poisoned Muggles with his pastries.
